Workplace Injuries & Illnesses

The Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII) produces annual data on nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses requiring days away from work, job restriction, or job transfer. The survey covers private-sector employers and some state and local government employers.

The incidence rate is the number of recordable cases per 100 full-time equivalent workers per year. A rate of 3.5 means 3.5 cases per 100 workers annually. Industries with high physical demands, equipment exposure, or repetitive motion risks tend to show higher rates. Only injuries and illnesses that are work-related and meet OSHA's recording criteria are counted.

Ranked by each industry's most recent published incidence rate. The latest available year varies — BLS publishes detailed industry breakdowns less frequently than in the past, so the year shown per row may be older than the most recent SOII release (2022).
